Description
Egg Traps are a classic predator trap which worked equally well for birds and mammals. Unusually, compared to most of the gin traps of the same period, the Egg Trap is a bait trap rather than a tread trap.
The jaws are set in a horizontal position with one jaw is secured beneath a catch which is held in place by the weight of an egg, placed on the carrier. When an animal lift the egg or breaks it, the catch is released and the jaws snap shut.
- This is a very nice example of a 7″ Egg Trap made by lanes. The makers name is clearly stamped on the catch and spring.
- This huge example has 24″ jaws and would certainly have been intended for large mammal predators like foxes and wolves.
- This smaller 5 Inch Egg Trap is a branded model for GILPA
