This is another example of the efficient and highly effective ‘funnel’ at work. Just as with the mouse trap there are just a few key dimensions and principles that make this trap design work. In this trap however, you’ll notice that the funnel is used upside down.
These traps were manufacturer by Olsen & Thompson in the 1930s. The later, slightly smaller, mass produced model stands 8.5 inches high and roughly 4.25 inches in diameter. The other is a much larger 11 ¼ inches high and 6 ½ inches diameter so there may have been several sizes in manufacture through its development.
